West Louisiana - Beauregard, Rapides & Vernon Parish

Originally drilled in the late 1990s, Sonoran’s West Louisiana wells are located east and northeast of DeRidder, Louisiana. The wells were completed in the Austin Chalk formation, with dual opposing horizontal sections each approximately 3,000 to 4,000 long.

Being a water-driven highly-fractured reservoir, the Austin Chalk is a prolific producer in the area, and generally produces with a significant water cut. Due to the large drainage areas of the wells, each well generally has its own separation and tanks, and a dedicated salt-water disposal well.

Originally completed by Union Pacific Resources, the wells’ original designs allowed formation solids and scale to accumulate down-hole, and did not allow proper cleaning to be performed.

Based on estimations that indicated a large portion of the original oil remains in-place, Sonoran acquired the wells and is planning re-entry, clean-out, tubular re-configuration, and a return to production. The workover program is planned to begin in late 2007, and is initially targeted at five wells.

Chemical clean-outs are being planned for the balance of the wells. Tentative review indicates that the drilling of further lateral sections into un-drained sections of the reservoir may be justified. This option may provide for further up-side potential.
